The entries that follow include all the inhabited islands of the Cyclades, the Dodecanese and the Northeastern Aegean. In addition, they include some uninhabited ones, due to the presence of archaeological findings and monuments.

The entries have a uniform structure. They consist of an “identity”, which presents data regarding the present-day natural, demographic, administrative and cultural character of each island (population, administrative incorporation, museums, archaeological sites, natural monuments, cultural associations, radio stations, newspapers etc), and of the “main entry” which, necessarily briefly, presents the historical and cultural course of each island. The units dealing with museums and monuments, architecture and folklore culture have been developed as separate chapters. In spite of the effort to achieve uniformity, each entry presents some peculiarities in the structure of the text, which depend on the narrative requirements imposed by the particular physiognomy of the specific island.

The text of each entry is accompanied by supplementary categories of data (bibliography, webliography, glossary etc) and multimedia applications.
